ABOUT OUR DATA

Through our extensive network of nine health care systems, PaTH offers researchers the opportunity to securely work with and learn from diverse patient populations. We support a range of studies including observational studies based on health record data and clinical trials integrated into care delivery. PaTH can also assist with preparatory-to-research data.
SUPPORT FOR MULTI-SITE STUDIES

PaTH enables smooth collaborations between researchers throughout the network through our single Institutional Review Board (IRB), data use agreements, streamlined contracting processes, and shared best practices. We also help researchers collaborate with clinicians and understand their practice norms in the various health systems. Further, through consultations with PaTH’s Future Research Topics work group, researchers are both oriented to the data available through PaTH and have an opportunity to work with experienced researchers at nine institutions to ensure their study design best leverages the strengths of PaTH and PCORnet.
DATA SECURITY

The PaTH Network employs extensive security measures to ensure all patient information remains safe and private. Our Common Data Model and study data sets are stored in the University of Pittsburgh’s highly protected Health Services Research Data Center and analyzed remotely via secure virtual desktops.
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

PaTH helps researchers pursue patient-centered studies by engaging patients, system leaders, insurance providers, and other stakeholders. Our patient story archive and virtual crowdsourcing feature help researchers better understand patient perspectives, and our staff is available to educate researchers about various stakeholder engagement resources at participating institutions.
DISSEMINATION SUPPORT

PaTH offers researchers a number of ways to disseminate their work including our website, newsletter, and social media platforms. We can also help researchers connect with partner institutions’ media staff to further publicize their work.
