PaTH Protocol PI(s): Alison Morris, MD, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; Kathleen Mctigue, MD, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of HCQ to prevent COVID-19 clinical infection in healthcare workers (HCWs) as well as to evaluate the efficacy of HCQ to prevent viral shedding of SARS-CoV-2 among HCWs and the safety and tolerability of HCQ.
Goal(s): HERO is a research program – short for Healthcare Worker Exposure Response & Outcomes (HERO) – that will unite healthcare workers across America to study and address the problems our healthcare heroes face in real time—and over time.
The HERO program will initially have two parts – the HERO Registry and the HERO-HCQ Trial. In the future, the HERO Registry will help speed additional clinical studies that address unmet needs for healthcare workers.
